PHILOSOPHY AND APPROACH My treatment philosophy is based on an understanding of how early experiences and relationships shape the course of our lives. I am a down to earth interactive psychotherapist who believes that positive long term change can occur from building a safe therapeutic relationship. I believe it is possible to heal developmental gaps left from experiencing trauma, abuse, addiction or even very covert family patterns that are confusing because your family "looks good", yet you feel empty, confused, sad and at a loss to explain why. We will make use of issues that come up in our relationship as well as those occurring in your everyday life in order to explore and understand old wounds and stuck places. I will help you to make links between present life and past family history, and might use dreams, guided imagery, and EMDR (otherwise known as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) where appropriate. EMDR is a non-touch body-based way of working with trauma, anxiety, phobias, negative beliefs, and has many applications. I have found that it addresses the limitations of "talking" therapy, and encourage clients to make use of EMDR, as it is a safe, powerful tool for deep and lasting change. FORMAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING I hold an M.A. degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco, California. "Integral" refers to the concept of integration of "the religious, mythic and symbolic philosophies of ancient traditions with the empirical, analytic paradigms of modern science". It represents the idea of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit. I have been a therapist for 14 years and am trained and experienced in a variety of areas, including assessment and treatment of issues related to compulsive behaviors, sex addiction, women's issues, sexual orientation and alternative sexuality, depression and anxiety, relationship issues, and couples therapy. I have completed the basic Level II training in EMDR, and have continued my study of EMDR with advanced specialized training. I recently completed a six-month training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, which works with mindfulness and the body. I am committed to continuing my education above and beyond the minimum requirements of my board. In addition I have specialized training in Clinical Supervision of licensed and unlicensed counselors and psychotherapists. INTERESTS AND SPECIALTY AREAS
