Dale Rhodes

Mentoring & Spiritual Direction

Spiritual direction is the contemplative practice of accompanying another as he or she awakens to the spiritual in everyday life.  It is the shared intentions and supports for the directee to have a deeper and fuller experience through the ever-changing phases of life.

Dale describes his work as support for the contemporary contemplative.   He offers attentive listening and supportive guidance to those seeking a natural Way of living in the balance of spontaneity and harmony.   He journeys with seekers from all walks of life who wish to be more present to the fullness of life as it is, as the Way is found everywhere in our lives.  Incorporating Taoist, Zen and other wisdom traditions in his work, Dale is especially helpful to those seeking deeper practice, simplicity, lightness, attention to integrity and ethics, greater ease in relationships and right livelihood.  You even get a cup of tea and a few extra minutes to be still when you come for your visit.

Professional certification in applying the Enneagram as a personal and spiritual development resource enhances Dale's work as a mentor and spiritual director.  In addition, Dale has a Master of Arts in Spiritual Traditions & Ethics from Marylhurst University and a Certificate in the Art of Spiritual Direction from Mercy Center for Contemporary Spirituality.  In 1998, he was a founding member of the Interfaith Spiritual Center, one of the first interfaith centers for spiritual direction and education in this country.

Dale is a Taoist practitioner, teaching T'ai Chi Ch'uan Wu Long Form with the permission of his martial arts teacher, author Margy Emerson.  He attends to his own spiritual growth through meetings with his spiritual community, tai chi and meditation practices, zen birdwatching, and other educational adventures and retreats.  Dale appreciates his very simple and sustainable life, which is car-free, mostly carefree, and increasingly less cluttered with unnecessaries.  He names his partner, cat and compost bin as three of his most important life teachers today.

Organizational Consultation

Dale also provides direction, training and consultation for organizations, particularly nonprofits.  He has a Master of Science Degree in Human Services Administration from Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies and has extensive management experience in the mental health and public health arenas.   Dale is a Certified Professional Enneagram Trainer in the Narrative Tradition through authors Helen Palmer and David Daniels, MD.  His training also includes work with NLP/Enneagram author Tom Condon.

Are you looking to slow down, to get clear, and to be more of a Contemporary Contemplative?   Do you want to wake up and see clearly the best you can be in this life?

I offer contemplative listening and supportive guidance as you find the Way of balance and harmony in living your life to the fullest.

I provide skillful mentoring using the powerful and effective Enneagram Personality System, along with Taoist, Buddhist and other resources from the wisdom traditions.

Support for your journey will unfold as we find ways for you to welcome and respond to the spiritual and the real in daily life.

I am especially helpful for those seeking greater clarity in relationships, vocation, grief processes, and spiritual practice.

My work is enhanced by years of being a mentor and spiritual director, and by my professional experience as the Director of Group Services at Chicago’s GLBT Center, as Director of the Illinois AIDS Hotline and the Chicago Gay/Lesbian Hotline, and as a staff counselor at Portland’s MetroCrisisLine.

I also enjoy teaching Tai Chi Chuan on Portland State University’s Campus.

I welcome your call or email to see if there is a fit for us to work together, either in individual sessions or in a workshop, group or retreat.
